We believe that the most effective way to do the ministry of Jesus is in small groups. Jesus Himself spent most of His time with twelve! Small groups allow a greater potential for growing trust, transparency, intimacy and personal ministry with one another. They should be safe environments that feel like an extended family.

From its inception the “church” was in homes, but it was never really about where they gathered. The 1st century “ekklesia”, was an assembly of believers doing life together. They were family no matter what, in the good times and the hard. Praying, breaking bread, worshiping and ministering together is part of it, but it’s so much more. A healthy family, like a healthy small group learns each other’s strengths and weaknesses, we breathe life into the hurting, sing for joy with those worshiping, give grace and correction to mistakes and praise successes. Churches are called to be a family with God as our father guiding our journey. Which means we are learning to love those next to us as well as those in the world, and we are a family on mission, to bring the gospel of the kingdom of heaven to any willing to receive it. I Believe one of the best places to learn how to do what Jesus did, is in a small community of believers who are actively learning to be more like Him every day.

Let’s face it: It’s just hard to get along with others in this fractious world. We all see things differently; we have different upbringings, tastes, politics, sports teams, and histories. And that’s just the beginning. We often have very strongly held but different ideas about the bible, Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit. Some of us lean toward legalism; some of us are too laissez-faire about our walk; some of us are extroverts, some are introverts, and sadly some are slaves to some hidden sin. And that is exactly why small groups are so important. In a small group, we dig into our differences, love through our differences, and fight in prayer for each other despite our differences, and in the process, we learn humility, true agape love, and God’s word all through the small groups we call family. Small groups aren’t about making everyone see things in the same way, they’re about learning to love each other and get along despite our differences.
